David
Bowie is one of a very few artists that understand the theatrics of
rock. Peter Gabriel, Jethro Tull and The Kinks are some of the others
that understand that presentation is paramount. My first Bowie concert
was this one below in 1978, the tour for the Heroes album. And of course,
there were plenty of the old classics from the chameleon of rock. The
album "Stage", recorded during this tour, is my favorite live
album. Bowie is also one of a very few artists who can absorb the energy
coming from the audience and reflect it back even stronger than it started.
It was an amazing,

In
1987 Bowie was touring for the "Never Let Me Down" album,
called the Glass Spider Tour after one of the songs on the new album.
The first photo shows the size of the stage, made to look like a six
story spider. Coming down from the belly of the spider is David, sitting
on a chair and singing. Bowie was joined by Peter Frampton on guitar
and Toni Basil as lead dancer and choreographer, both visible in the
last photo. Outdoors in a small college football field, the standing
room only crowd was pretty tame. The stage that spanned the entire field
at one end was flanked by two huge video screens. Richly produced and
again, very visual and theatrical. A fabulous show, all in all. Kj
