| Peter Gabriel
1978, 1982
My first exposure to Peter Gabriel in concert in 1978 was quite a departure from the norm. Instead of a "Coliseum" or "Cow Palace", Peter played in a small basketball gym holding less than one thousand people. After the lights went down, a lone handheld spotlight appeared by the entrance door as Peter, wearing bright orange gloves and an orange safety vest", played "Spot the Musician" with his flashlight, gradually working his way onstage with the rest of the similary equipped musicians following to start the show. Later on, as you can see from the photo below, I was close enough to the stage for Peter to pose right into my camera lens!
When I saw Peter again in 1982, I was lucky enough to be working for the local rock radio station sponsoring the performance and used my back stage pass to visit backstage, but shot his entire performance from the front of the stage. After all, Peter wasn't playing to the wings!
